Explora ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location Data

Explora requires access to your device's location services to provide location-based audio content. We collect:

  • Your current GPS coordinates while the app is in use
  • Location history during active journeys to deliver relevant stories

Location data is processed in real-time to match you with relevant content. We use geohash technology to generalize your exact location for content matching purposes.

1.2 Account Information

If you choose to create an account using Sign in with Apple, we may collect:

  • Your Apple ID identifier (a unique, anonymized code)
  • Your email address (if you choose to share it)
  • Your name (if you choose to share it)

1.3 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information about how you use the app:

  • Stories played and listening history
  • Journey statistics (distance traveled, duration)
  • App preferences and settings
  • Device information (device type, operating system version)

1.4 Subscription Information

Subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not have access to your payment details.

We use the collected information to:

  • Deliver location-relevant audio content during your journeys
  • Personalize your experience based on your preferences
  • Maintain and improve our services
  • Process and manage your subscription
  • Communicate with you about app updates and features
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve content quality

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We use:

  • Supabase for secure cloud data storage
  • HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
  • Secure token-based authentication

Location data from your journeys is stored on our servers to provide your journey history and improve content recommendations. You can delete your journey history at any time from within the app.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party services that help us operate the app (cloud hosting, AI content generation, text-to-speech services)
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

5. Third-Party Services

Our app uses the following third-party services:

  • Anthropic Claude: For AI-generated content (your location is used to generate relevant stories)
  • OpenAI: For text-to-speech voice generation
  • Supabase: For data storage and authentication
  • Apple App Store: For subscription processing

Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing their use of data.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data
  • Opt-out: Disable location services (note: this will prevent the app from functioning)

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Journey history is retained for 12 months unless you request earlier deletion. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

8. Children's Privacy

Explora is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than Australia, including the United States, where our service providers are located. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
